Grave lettering of a equid thief:
He institute a fastening and picked it up,
And with it walked away.
It happened that to another end
A equid was hitched, they say.
They took the fastening and equal it up
Unto a hickory limb.
It happened that the another end
Was someways hitched to him.
From Frederic William Unger, Epitaphs, 1904.
